Body Control Pilates
Background
The method was developed by the late Joseph Pilates, born in 1880 in Germany. A frail child, he turned to physical fitness programmes to improve his body image, becoming a keen sportsman who developed talents in sports as varied as diving, gymnastics and boxing. He studied many different disciplines and, drawing from each of them, formulated a system that worked for his own body - this became known as the Pilates Method.
"It is the mind itself which builds the body" - Joseph Pilates. Body Control Pilates offers both mental and physical training. Working on the deep postural muscles of the body, it rebalances muscle groups, brings the body into correct alignment and restores a natural normal movement. This allows the body to function more efficiently resulting in general benefits for your overall health and appearance. Based upon the well-constructed philosophical foundation, the core of the method is ‘awareness of your own body’ and each and every exercise is built around its eight key principles.
Pilates attracts many leading figures from the worlds of the performing arts and international level sports men and women, from a wide range of sports including rugby union, cricket, tennis, and athletics. It is also being used increasingly to complement the work of physiotherapists and osteopaths.
